Rijeka Norwegian Cruise Line’s cruise ships will no longer docks at Venice as early as 2024.

This was reported by the website Travelmode, citing a note the company reportedly sent to its travel agents: “We have tried in every way to maintain these ports of call, but the mode of passenger transshipment via lancioni has proven to be not in line with the quality standards we want to guarantee to passengers,”

Ncl reportedly motivated, referring to the mode of passenger disembarkation via tender experimented between 2022 and 2023, complete with a compensatory agreement with the Veneto municipality. Medov, Ncl’s Italian agency, did not comment.

Decisive would have been the imposition of having the tenders dock no longer at Riva Sette Martiri, but at the Maritime Station, which would have lengthened travel times from ships stopped at the roadstead.

Neither Ncl nor the terminal operator Vtp – Venezia Terminal Passeggeri explained why the company did not avail itself of the possibility of using the commercial berths in Marghera (at the Tiv, Vecon and Venice Ro-Port Mos terminals) prepared by the cruise commissioner (Port System Authority President Fulvio Di Blasio) after the ban on access to the Marittima through the Giudecca Canal imposed by the government in 2021 for larger ships.

The skipped stopovers are expected to be Norwegian Pearl’s 18. According to reports in the tourism paper, most of them should be replaced with stops in Ravenna, except for some calls at Rijeka.
