Things have improved, but certainly this portion of Venice on the mainland does not make the heart beat faster.

Hotels and parking lots are much cheaper, while adding the money of the bus or train to the center of Venice you can save significantly.

Sometimes the saving is not only money but also time: leaving your car in Mestre saves you the nightmare of looking for a parking space in Piazzale Roma.

In Mestre you can eat better while spending well.

And if you want to stay around after dinner, you won’t have any difficulty finding open bars and cultural events.

It may not be beautiful, but it could be useful.

Where to sleep in Mestre

The hotel offer in Mestre is wide, with proposals for all budgets and needs.

Since many business travelers pass through Mestre for business meetings or conferences, most hotels cater mainly to this clientele.

They are modern structures from 3 stars upwards that are also suitable for tourists looking for comfort and services.

One that we feel like recommending is the 4**** Plaza, exactly in front of the train and bus station.

Practically every 5 minutes you can find either bus or train that will take you to Venice Santa Lucia FS or Piazzale Roma in 15 minutes.

They are located in strategic points, close to the station and freeway tollbooths: the former are perfect for those on vacation, while the latter are suitable for those who have no interest in moving around the city.

In the vicinity of the station you can find a good choice of budget accommodation, such as 2 star hotels and family run pensions.

Not all of them, however, are of good quality… there is no shortage of accommodation of dubious taste, so when you do your research pay attention to comments on cleanliness and safety.

In this case it is good to pay attention to the location: make sure to stay within the center-station area and not to end up in a residential area with few connections.
